Languedoc wine - Les Vignerons d'Aspiran

Wine-growing area

Coteaux du Languedoc

Our vineyard

Situated roughly in the middle of Hérault County, the Aspiran wine-growing area lies primarily in the middle valley of the Hérault River, not far from Pézenas, Clermont l'Hérault, Béziers and Montpellier. The area consists of garrigue (moorland), soubergues (pebbly hillsides), and other small hills and plateaux that form the foothills of the Cevennes and the Montagne Noir, and on the edge of the wine-farming plain of the Hérault Valley.

Given its exposure to the sun and its climate, it is the ideal area for the production of Clairette du Languedoc, an AOC wine with a well-established reputation.

In part adjacent to the Minervois, Corbières and Costières du Gard wine-growing areas, it constitutes the heart of the Coteaux du Languedoc vineyards.
The region as a whole has a Mediterranean climate, but the vineyards geographical position and topography give them several specific characteristics. A typical Mediterranean climate has hot dry summers with long hours of sunshine, wet autumns, mild winters, and temperate springs but with the danger of late frosts until May.
The area is not much influenced by the nearby Mediterranean being better protected than the coastal plain, and the vineyards' hillside position reduces the effect of the spring frosts. In addition, the vineyards are significantly dryer in summer given their position facing the sun and the type of soil.
